Genesis 1:1 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. (KJV)
Sometimes the most simple of verses trigger the deepest of thoughts. An infinite God can hide so many things in one place. Consider some parallel thoughts for this verse. . .
1. What God makes, God names! God is making you into His likeness and image, restoring you to better than what Adam lost when he lost the image and likeness of God by disobedience. But God is still naming even today; He calls you Bride, He calls you Friend, He calls you Redeemed, He calls you Chosen, He calls you Called-Out-Ones. If you call yourself by any other name, then you are not in line with what God has named you. You are a SAINT of the most HIGH.
2. Before we see good and evil we see Light and Dark. The type exists before the antitype has even begun. Jesus said to be careful that the light that is in you is indeed light. If it is light, then you have power for The Light has power. If Darkness is around you, fear not; the Light is right around the horizon just waiting to chase away your darkness. Let the creation testify to you that LORD God existed before Evil is ever created. Light existed before there was Dark.
3. Life is full of distinctions which God has created; each with their purpose. Plants thrive in the light, but sleep in the dark. You thrive in the Light of God, but you fall asleep when darkness comes upon you. Is it any wonder that God hast to warn us to ‘shake sleep’. It is because it is night. Even the disciples had a tough time staying up and praying when ‘darkness’ fell upon them. Christ’s darkest hour put them to sleep! We are children of the Light and we should be walking in the light. The world is going to sleep very fast, for darkness, yea gross darkness, has come upon them. We now are no longer dependant on the Light being in the World or Creation, but rather the Light ‘in the midst of you’ shines brightest!
One last thought. Today is the DAY of salvation — for the Light of the World has come! The world can put on blinders, dark glasses, or turn their face from the Sun but they cannot ever run completely away from the coming of the LIGHT!
