To understand how to choose, we must look at the Greek word often translated as "discern" or "prove" in the New Testament: dokimazō. There is a profound difference between "I like this" and "This is True." Our feelings are the "chaff among the wheat", they are easily blown away by the winds of circumstance. Discernment is the process of putting a teaching through the furnace of Scripture.
When we say, "I’m sorry," we are often expressing a regret for the consequences of our choices. But when the Spirit of God works through a sound resource, He leads us to say, "Please forgive me."
